Snooze emails: Tips & Tricks
Snoozing has been regarded as a procrastination tool for many years. Snoozes on our alarm clocks are being used every day to give us an extra 20-minutes in bed and even as reminders for activities.
Snoozing delays activities for later. This, however, can be used as a feature for your benefit. Built into Newton is a feature called Snooze. Snooze is designed to help you schedule an email to appear later in your day/week when it is more relevant to answer/interact with.
This technique has been adopted with tasks. Many of the top productivity applications like use a system like snoozing to re-organise tasks for later. This is effective when you’re busy or need a piece of information to appear at the right time. For Newton, we’ve created a host of ways that you can enhance your snoozing of emails. We wanted to cover some of these so that you can maximize the use of your snooze function across all your devices and accounts.
Here are some tips and tricks for using Snooze on Newton:
Snoozing an email
On your Mac, the snooze icon appears above the email. You can hit this for a card with your Snooze options.
On your iPhone/Android or tablet, simply use gestures too. If you’re not a swipe type of person, no problem. If you’re inside an email, you can use the bottom navigation bar to quickly snooze an email.
Customize your timings
To start you off the suggested timings for later, work day start times, afternoons, weekends and weekend starts are pre-determined. You can customize this if you wish to personalize it to your schedules.
On your iPhone/Android, go to the Settings tab, hit “Superchargers” then “Snooze”. Within this tab, you’ll be able to adapt those timings for a more effective work week and weekend.
On the Mac, do the same. Hit Settings > Superchargers > Snooze to make changes.
Snooze after sending
This is a feature built into the email compose window in Newton. Before sending your email, you can choose a multitude of options. If you hit “follow-up” you’ll see “Remind if not replied”. This option essentially snoozes that email after being sent to appear if there is no communication.
This is perfect for those who forget to follow-up. Combining this with the Read Receipts features, you’ll know if they opened this and didn’t follow-up, giving you full context to make a well-crafted follow-up.
Snooze to desktop
On your iPhone/Android phone or tablet and on the go? Want to answer that one email on your desktop (Mac) later on? Easy, just use the “Snooze to Desktop” feature. The email will appear on your desktop, giving you peace of mind with the right emails being sent to your desktop. Perfect for designers and editors with briefs and creative work, and anyone who’s constantly on the move.
Star the snoozed email
Once a snoozed email returns, it’ll appear in your main email feed.
Sometimes your inbox will be messier when the message returns. Many of our users take advantage of the ‘Starred’ feature to pick out the most relevant or timely emails. This feature will highlight emails that return so that you can focus on acting on them.
Simply go to Settings > Superchargers > Snooze > hit the tick box at the bottom for “Star the emails that return from Snooze.”
